Hopefully some of the old time HD drivers will check in and respond, but for many years HD and others were hardtail, however they had ballon tires for the most part that absorbed some of the road irregularities and their (bikes) weight help to keep the back tire on the ground. The Savage rear tire is not very soft walled like the old style was but, I think a Savage would do OK but with a 4" drop, (rear suspension travel is about 3 " stock) some ground clearance will have been sacrified, it will harder to corner with the sport bikes like we can now. If it is too low, have an inch cut out of the struts. From my messing around last year with the rear fender struts, I think there is lots of tire clearance in the fender even at full spring compression. Have fun, I'm thinking about going to a spring solo seat next year also. Just finished a Wixom bar mount fairing project and have ordered a GIVI 36 liter trunk to go with the hard bags I installed last year. Looks kinda like a single cylinder Kawasaki Police cruiser at this point, with the white fairing, white bags and Honda trail 90 package rack in place of the pillion pad. Also have a full front fender. Just need an antenna and big lights. Next year I haunt the salvage yards and swap meets for the full rear fender. Weather is warming and time to get over this PMS (parked motorcycle syndrome). Max
